Art in the Bag


With a mission of reducing plastic bag usage, Bring Your Own Darien is hosting a children's art contest. The art contest is an effort to raise children's awareness of plastic bag usage and promote reusable bags to reduce environmental damage. 

Art contest submissions should measure 12 inches by 12 inches or smaller, may be in color or black and white. The winning submission must include the words "BYO" Darien, CT." and will become Bring Your Own Darien's new logo, which will be printed on bags and other BYO Darien items. 

The deadline for submissions is December 15, 2018 and the winner will be announced by January 31, 2019. Only one entry may be submitted per person. As a condition of entering the Contest, the Participant agrees that if their artwork is selected as the winning entry, all of Participant's right, title and interest in and to the copyright for the artwork will be assigned to BYO Darien.  The Participant agrees to execute and deliver additional documents as required. Earth Week Public Schools


The students watch a plastic facts presentation and students learned why they should pack a trash free lunch and use reusable containers. They also learn ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

Darien Senior Center Workshop


July 16th, BYO Darien Presented the newest research and current status on plastic issues around the world and in our community. 

Darien Sidewalk Sale


July 12th, 13th and 15th, BYO Darien asked the community about their needs for plastic bags and we presented the actual issue on plastic. 

Beach Clean-up


On July 22nd, 2018 we cleaned up the Noroton River water way that ends up in the Long Island Sound. We collected about 90 pounds of trash among them were: plastic bags, balloons,straws, glass bottles, aluminum cans, bottles caps,food wrap,etc.

Visit Darien Businesses


In August, BYO Darien members visited most of the businesses in town to understand their needs for checkout bags.  

Middle School Skip the Straw Eco-Challenge


On August 30th, first day of school, BYO Darien presented a Skip the Straw pledge for the students of the Darien Middle School. We have invited the students to stop using the straws take the pledge and ask their friends to take the pledge to skip the straws. 



We presented the story of food wasted. Speaker Carolyn Bayne explain the new compost program to be launch in Darien October 12th.

A Plastic Ocean


On October 3rd, people came from everywhere to see this epic global adventure searching for whales and found plastic in the most pristine oceans in the world. 



BYO Darien presented the Movie Straws at the DEPOT on Friday September 28th.
